The goal for universal developmental screenings of young children is to assess the development of each child at the earliest ages so that further assessments and/or treatment suggestions may be made so that normal patterns of development may return. The goal is for each child to successfully develop emotional and social competence within the heart of family life and therefore more likely to achieve school readiness and less likely to enter the juvenile justice system. Universal screening involves a survey that the parents fill out about their child. This survey is evaluated by a developmental pediatrician. The confidential results of the evaluation will be sent to the parents along with any recommendations for the child.
